About Bregenz
Bregenz lies at the westernmost tip of Austria, on beautiful Lake Constance (Bodensee), the third-largest in Central Europe after Lake Balaton and Lake Geneva. The town spreads amphitheatrically at the foot of Pfander Mountain, and is most famous for its annual performing arts festival, Bergenzer Festspiele, featuring opera and musical performances on a floating stage at the lakeshore, open-air drama performances in the town’s Medieval square, and many other events. Worth seeing are the Baroque Martin’s Tower, whose chapel contains 14th-Century frescoes, and the Gothic St. Gall’s Church. A cable car takes visitors up to the Pfander for a magnificent view of the lake, along with Germany, Austria, Switzerland and dozens of mountain peaks.
